We are pleased to offer a 6-week residency to a South West based artist in our sought-after Studio 10 Project Space here at East Quay. We are accepting applications from artists working in all mediums.
About Studio 10 Project Space:
Studio 10 Project Space helps us build connections with the local community through introducing our audiences to new mediums, artworks, and wider contemporary practice. It provides us with the space to platform emerging and underrepresented artists as part of our wider exhibition programme and encourages open conversations about different ways of creating and experiencing art.
Residency dates:
Friday 21 November 2025 to Sunday 4 January 2026 inclusively.
Artist Fee:
Contains Art CIO is offering the following fee (inclusive of VAT) to the selected artist: £1200. This fee is to cover artist stipend, material costs, and any equipment needed to produce work during the residency.
Travel budget and accommodation cover:
- Contains Art CIO will contribute £300 to towards the artist’s travel expenses during the course of the residency.
- The selected artist is invited to stay in one of East Quay’s accommodation Pods for seven nights during the first week of the residency., from Friday 21 November - Friday 28 November. Please note: the nights must be used consecutively and Contains Art CIO will cover the full cost of the stay.
Artist eligibility:
East Quay defines ‘South West based’ in-line with the local government profile, to include the following counties: Cornwall (including the Isles of Scilly), Dorset, Devon, Somerset*, Bristol, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
*Somerset-based artists are welcome to apply, however, we may opt for someone based further afield, given the other Somerset-orientated opportunities we offer.
Artist Requirements:
This is an opportunity for artists who are looking to be present and active in Studio 10 on a regular basis throughout the 6-week duration. This is a studio residency, rather than an exhibition opportunity, so the focus is on making, exploring and sharing ideas with different people in a new environment. We recognise that existing commitments/travel logistics can make this difficult, and are happy to discuss individual challenges when it comes to meeting these requirements. We are also aware that the residency intersects with the Christmas period, which may have implications on availability during that time.
Artist outcomes:
Whilst there are no specific expectations placed on the artist to produce a presentation or exhibition as part of the residency, we are open to receiving applications from artists who are interested in incorporating activities/workshops/events as part of their residency at East Quay. Further details can be discussed in advance of and during the residency.
Application deadline:
5pm, on Friday 30 May 2025
