Gallery 2
Ship of Fools / The Dockers' Museum brings together a selection of photographs and objects by artist Allan Sekula. Throughout his career, Sekula explored social and economic issues, highlighting the lives and struggles of workers.
The work on display at East Quay will reflect Sekula's use of maritime imagery to expose the inequalities and precarious conditions faced by seafarers, urging us to reflect on the human cost of globalisation and its connections to labour, migration, and environmental exploitation. Ship of Fools / The Dockers’ Museum creates an alternative archive that honours labour struggles and collective resistance, inviting audiences to consider the systems shaping our world.
The collection serves as both a tribute to unseen workers and a call to action — an inspiring reminder of art’s power to uncover hidden stories and promote change.
